The miata is finally +turbo so it’s time to go back to the racetrack and see if Zach can run a decent lap at Willow Springs. Since last time we were at this track, the cooling system has been upgraded, the brakes have been upgraded, we’ve added an oil cooler, moved to a standalone ECU, and of course, added a turbo kit; to make an overall total of $17,500. Will all this money in mods be worth it or will we have big issues again?
Big thanks to @EADExotics for hosting another great track day!
We have a new channel!

Money wasted.
It’s just like Initial D. More power does not mean better times.
bigger tires and aero

Gotta get aaron behind the wheel
OIl dripping on a track is so dangerous is can be the difference of life and death for a real race driver or even a noobie. If you see a big oil leaking coming from your engine DO NOT do what this guy did as its dangerous to not only your engine but also everyone else on that track
I refuse to watch any more "time measuring" videos by a fucking stop watch. To all car channels out there, invest couple of hundred $$$ for a proper system. Much love.
Should have just put an aluminum 5.3 in it.
seems to be good
Get a K24 honda engine from a tlx 210hp and 190tq the tq makes it super special as you can spin tires through 6 gears, or a honda accord 2013-17 and get the manual 6spd in a 3500lb car it beat a wrx from a roll and i put it likes yellow top batteries-411. 2.4 liter k24w2 or the tlx one.or tsx.

fantastic!
17k, Triple digit horsepower increase and 4 seconds slower?
video is only 8 minutes long.... UH OH!
Forget the $17k spent. Surely the better tyres would have helped you get a better lap time?
Makes me so glad I went with a 5.0 swap t5 trans and Ford 8.8 rear end for probably 10k total (including roller shell) I don’t have the heart left in me to fix one thing after another after another like that lol
@gioyu comi if there was a dollar amount on labor and welding it would be probably 13k in all honesty. Especially custom headers.
this just isn't in my future unless I win the lottery.
I think it ran 1.50 perfectly (maybe a pro racing driver would do a 1.44). You not only increased Hp, but also weight. At the amount of Hp it is doing, it's balancín all the added weight. Maybe another turbo, change of internal parts of Block, etc. So it makes about 300 to 380 hp and know weight is not gonna matter as much.
" (maybe a pro racing driver would do a 1.44)" A 200~ whp miata on 100 tread wear tires (R888s i believe hes on currently), would more than likely be in the in the 1:3X range. But thats what we practice for!
bruh my car literally doubled in price
So you didn't answer the question. Was $17,500 of mods worth it? No. It made you go slower!
STUTUTUTUTUTU
I love how everyones saftey that day took a back seat to shaving off a second or two. Remind me to never attend a track day when these clowns are there spewing oil all over the track.
I refuse to watch any more "time measuring" videos by a fucking stop watch. To all car channels out there, invest couple of hundred $$$ for a proper system. Much love.
What a cool hoodie, where is it for sale?
First of all, if you want to go faster put your roof up! I guarantee you that’s two tenths of a second!
hrworld.info/home/video/obynl6mejaR3e8w.html
A lot of blue smoke comin out
Probably If You Don't Do The Shake And Do It In The First Run, You'll Probably Gonna Get The 1:40 Or Less.
17k, Triple digit horsepower increase and 4 seconds slower?
You gotta do more track videos
Never, in the history of ever, has adding a turbocharger made an engine more reliable.
So let me get this right.. 17k, double the horses, and you ran 4 secs slower? No way a pcv valve fix with some catchers will fix that.. this just doesn't add up. I feel like with 17k you could just buy a car with a faster time. I love this channel and series. I really wished for a different result. Edit* As a financially struggling 20ish guy who has always wanted to get into car performance and driving on a track someday this is really discouraging. The reason I watch this channel is to learn as much as i can.. to someday do it myself. I guess this just isn't in my future unless I win the lottery.
Gene simmons with the stop watch 4:42
Did i see a plug over the PCV? Oh nein.
can anyone tell me how tall is zach and is he single or not? asking for a friend
Dude gets payed to mod his car. What a fun job
3:40 looks like the PCV outlet from the rocker cover is blanked off? PCV needs connecting, and needs to be routed to the inlet side of the turbo where it’s negative pressure, not to the manifold itself as that’s now under positive pressure when turbo is boosting.
How can someone be this handsome goddamn it Zach
“If it’s leaking oil, it still has oil, tell me when it’s not leaking oil” that’s the motto
I first heard this from ch-53 mechs
Man miata are slow as fuck. However they are awesome
In short... 17,500 bucks wasn't worth it im taking it?
It's really stupid to run a car that's leaking oil on track... I don't really care if you blow your engine up or set your car on fire but you're putting other drivers at risk by spilling oil all over the track, which can really cause crashes! I've seen this happen often while racing the Nürburgring. Really irresponsible!!!
Ok I'm not a car guy "yet" but being from the states could you not add reflective sheet under the hood to stop heat up?
What did you expect with literally zero crankcase ventilation :D Overlooking something this simple can cause many failures like cracked rings or ringlands, destroyed valve seals, destroyed crank seal on both sides, valvecover gasket and blowing up your turbo.
Pushing that much oil can often point to cracked ringlands/pinched rings, but in this case once I saw that cap on the breather it was obvious. This engine just needs some seriously breather mods, couple of -10an on the valve cover and a catch can will probably have it sorted. Shouldn't even need to change the gaskets, just wash her up good. When the crankcase over pressures it will push oil past every seal, front crank and rear main seal, typically suffer the most leakage.
Yes i see this as an absolute win to my money, I'm just gonna stick to NA for now😅 great video I've learned a lot.
Sooooo season 3 of money pit is going to be engine internals ?
Bit of oil on the track never hurt anyone :s
erm, he is running slower? is it due to oil leaking? or he is not accustomed to car as the power almost doubled? upgraded brake alone should be able to shave 1 sec or more if it's really good
@Noob Driver More than welcome my friend. Im always concerned about lengthy posts because, well "nobody got time for that", so i try and keep to the point as much as possible- it can just be tricky someonetimes lol. Either way- cheers :)
@SidewaysGts wow, thanks for lengthy explanation.
"Upgraded brake alone should be able to shave 1 sec or more" Some context may be needed here- "Upgraded brakes" may, or may not have any actual impact on the stopwatch. Big willow isnt a super complex track, with only 9 turns- And while its plenty "Fast", it doesnt have many extreme high to low speed sections (maintaining a relatively high speed throughout). Some of the tightest sections are at the back of the hill, but youre going uphill anyways. Point of this is, its not difficult to find pads that can maintain enough braking pressure to consistently "lock up" the brakes at any turn- even after a few laps. If this is the case for him (and i suspect it is), "better brakes" wouldnt make any appreciable difference in time. Further on that, if he ran "big brakes" for example- His lap times could very well stand to go UP (not down)- As the car is now running with more weight, and rotating mass. What tends to make "better" brakes, actually *better*, is typically their ability to slow you down at the limit, for longer periods of times. Which can be huge on a high horse power car or on tracks where youre doing more than a couple laps, especially on tracks that have numerous high to low speed section (Another track at Willow Springs, "The Streets of WIllow", for example, has many of such turns- and despite being a "slower" track overall, is famously harder on brakes), but if hes not fading the brakes it wont do much. That said- His times were fairly high. Its not unusual for well set up NA miatas to run in the 1:3X range. This car is running 1.5-2x the power, and is on R888 tires (Which are 100 tread wear tires. The lower the stickier, to a degree. Many "Street" class cars limit their cars to running on 200 tread wear summer tires, for comparison. R888s are r-comps, and great tires for the track). Theres definitely a lot more time in this car- just going to take some practice to get there- And itll be amazing to watch.
convertible to check since i only have a gt86 from 2016
Why the 2 color globes at the track?? Couldn’t find two alike ??😂😂
Everyone else following the channel with their own slightly smoking miatas: *”so.....we have to wait till next week?”*
*waves to Zach and Charley*
6:52 those aren't milliseconds sweetie
Skit bil
imagine putting all that money into a car just for it to actually be slower....
Just do the LS1 swap already.
just drop a 5.3 V8 LS in the car then you will be around 500+HP
Why dont you instal external wastegate then it will screamm!!
Loving the longer hair man keep growing pls
Did you even try and tune the tires and suspension? You can’t just throw tires and suspension at a car and expect it to lower your lap times. You have to at least find out the optimal damper settings, camber and toe angles, then adjust tire pressure accordingly. It’s like slapping on a turbo, injectors and and an ECU then expecting it to work together. You have to tune the suspension and tires as well. Doubling the HP is useless if you can’t get it to the ground. As was proven in this episode.
20k for 200 horse? Someone doesn't know what they're doing.
Kr!$$Y dont M!SsY...! Seriously Hit that .25 playback Somebooty hire this baddy as a human metronome
This feels more like an episode from Garage 54. Next thing you know he's gonna try to replace radiator hoses with pool noodles.
I believe that a rigid roof will improve the performance of the miata since the air will pass over the top and not stagnate in the seats. i think because i don't actually have a convertible to check since i only have a gt86 from 2016
Think ud go faster with the top up
blown head gasket and still ran
Here at 666 dislikes... imma leave it there
Ngl I lowkey want that Snap-on tools long sleeve 👌👌👌
I cant find them anywhere
whats next built motor or engine swap
That hairstyle though
The absorbed lan structurally tap because lan immuhistochemically sparkle over a teeny-tiny kilometer. uneven, brief female
The cooing octagon pathophysiologically reproduce because epoch anecdotally look mid a adorable babies. neat, robust tail
I guess the question is can you buy a stock car for the same money as this Miata+mods that has same/better track performance? Which car, an old M3? Albeit building and modding your car is half the fun. 🤑
where is that blow off you installed haha the car is fluttering
Aye bruh... my girlfriend bought me a money pit shirt back in november and hasnt heard anything since then. Sincerely disappointed @donutmedia
Dang my miata naturally aspirated 110hp and we got close to the same time
There' just not much passage way for air to enter the engine that's why it easily heats up
soooo, the answer is no?
Poor car with choked ventilation :/ At least you didn't attend a track day with stuck thermostat as I did. Expensive 3 laps
Did he really say this is turbo pit baby? Lmao
blown head gasket and still ran
Where did you get the turbo kit
Thank you for using the word save in that context, in replace of the word except. Whenever I use it in that context people get confused and it annoys the hell out of me.
"Didn't overheat, there is a little bit of SMOKE coming out of the engine bay..."
4:36, I think your Tacho was again not working!
I've been on fire in the past with this exact issue on an MG Maestro Turbo. Many years ago now, but when I popped the bonnet it let the oxygen into the fire. I lost my eyebrows, eyelashes, and most of my hair. Not to mention my t-shirt was melted to my neck and my lips were so burnt they stuck together. The fire brigade wrapped my face in cling film with a straw to breath through. Thankfully I heal like Wolverine so no lasting scarring other than a bit on my neck when I get a sun tan. Taught me a valuable lesson of not dicking about when seeing/smelling smoke.
Zach I love you. Your videos keep me so entertained on snapchat and on youtube. You’re so great. Thank you for the content!
Used Fiesta ST and dump the leftovers into coilovers, sway bars, tires, intake/downpipe/tune and harness bar.
Proper catch can pcv system should be 1st step before a compression test to see if the bottom end is good or it was the pcv system 🤷♂️
Should have ran new rings.. you pretty much had the engine half way there when you opened it up the "check the internals"
Will money put still be a thing? This is my fave series
will there be another high low series with different cars?
So I mean. In terms of lap time, The answer at this current time is “absolutely not”
Also, just to add, I like that things don't always go to plan. It's life. And Zack is about the most charismatic person I think I've ever watched on HRworld.
I wish people wouldn't be so hard on Donut and Zach/Money Pit. It's been an incredibly well documented build series and I always enjoy watching it. What they've done is damn impressive. Are their better, more technical videos out there? Sure. Car Passion channel comes to mind. BUT...Why can't everyone have fun? Can we only receive entertainment from a select few?
Seems like our boy Zach was paying a little too much attention to the gauges and not enough on his feel for the car this time around.
I cant wait to see what's next!
Next episode should be: I traded the Miata for a 92 toyota celica with a 3sgte beams in it.
Californians are crazy, it looks hot as hell and there are people wearing sweaters and Russian trooper winter hats.
No, it’s actually cold. It’s the desert, it’s just dry as hell and there’s no vegetation. It actually snows sometimes in that area every few years.
Recommend a higher quality gasket rtv. It will definitely not let any oil out. I'm push about 800 hpr and it helps hold it all together prevent oil leaks
where did he get the snap on crewneck????
why doesn’t my turbo miata sound like thattt 😭
Used Fiesta ST and dump the leftovers into coilovers, sway bars, tires, intake/downpipe/tune and harness bar.
Man I wish I had friends that were into cars.
An NA Miata plus $17000 to get a turbo Miata?.... I'll bet you could get a pristine MX5 from a white haired old man, and save a lot of hassle.
